Our people
Sally - HR Manager
Group Support Office
I chanced upon Glendola Leisure in 1998 at a venue in Southampton where I worked for them post-university in a cocktail & entertainment bar. I worked for them through until 2003 but then left for other opportunities.
The question for me is really why I came back…Glendola Leisure…they offer careers as well as jobs and unlike other companies ensure that you fully understand business as well as products and service. The depth of development that offer is outstanding.
It’s a bit of a long one but I’ll try and give you the brief version.
I started dancing and serving cocktails at The Beach as a Bar Tender in 1998, after being promoted to a Supervisor I was transferred to the Enigma Nightclub as an Assistant Manager in 1999. In 2000 I was transferred to Bar M in Putney and then promoted to Deputy Manager of the CC Club, Piccadilly Circus in 2001. I left in 2003 before returning in 2004 as the Sales & Events Manager for Waxy O’Connor’s in Birmingham and then being transferred to the Terraces in Brighton for the Summer. I then left Glendola again until 2006 when I returned as the General Manager for City Pride in Canary Wharf, then General Manager of Waxy O’Connor’s & Waxy’s Little Sister, London then Star & Garter in Putney. Having studied Human Resources in this time I am now a Human Resources Manager based out of our Group Support Office…I have loved seeing the company grow and contemporize over time and feel that Glendola’s dedication to knowledge, innovation and of course its people mean that I will still be engaged with it in years to come.
Gosh for me...there isn’t a typical day…I have a diverse set of challenges every day and after 20 years in hospitality I am still learning…
Seeing people take on the challenge of a career in hospitality and succeeding, promoting people gives me that warm fuzzy feeling and makes the more challenging days worthwhile.
Successfully hosting some of London’s biggest corporate events..
Full Monty Stage Show Wrap Party
Small private concert of Ronnie Wood, his son & Slash playing live on stage together
Jamiroqui’s Album Launch & Birthday Party
Bryan Adams performing live
Christmas Party/Leaving for Lehman Brothers paid for before the collapse...it was the biggest leaving party you’ve seen…people were very drunk!
Determination, drive and taking responsibility for your own development. Actively seeking knowledge, innovating and taking your team with you.
As the HR Manager I could list it all but what is not in the text is the dedication we have to our biggest and most valuable resource…you.
The investment in business skills for its employees, it’s not just a tick box company, you’re not spoon fed information from a head office, you have to understand how to write a budget as well as be able to deliver it.
We can offer you a job to support you through studies or boost earnings but we can also offer you a career, you can earn great money in a few years if you are willing to work hard and embrace everything we have to teach.
Top Gun – I grew up in a British version of this…living on military bases I used to sit and watch the jets take off whilst walking the dog. I learnt to drive on the runway…
Evanescence - Bring Me to Life comes to mind but so do many others.
Firstly it would be family & friends but from people you would know:
David Attenborough
Churchill
Keanu Reeves
The Queen
Before my daughter came along Bora Bora, quiet huts over the water, warmth, blue sea and white sand…tranquility. But now safari…she loves animals.
