I chose to work for Glendola because they are a great family run business and have a very good personal progression scheme in place for those wanting to move up in their careers.
I started in 2011 at the Star & Garter as a Bar Tender/Waitress and in April 2013 I got promoted to Events Manager. I then moved to Assistant Manager two years later. I then moved to Silk & Grain, a restaurant in the City, I have now progressed to General Manager in the Vestry in Southampton.
General running of the shift, making sure both customers and employees are happy. Organising staff files, upcoming training, social media and marketing for the business.
Meeting new people, chatting to customers and finding out their story. Helping employees progress and develop skills.
I would have to say becoming Events Manager, it was a huge step up for me. I found it very challenging but very enjoyable at the same time. I learnt things about myself and gained a lot more confidence.
I think it all comes down to a couple of things, common sense is a huge one for me...and also hard working. That’s all it takes really, if you push yourself and work hard the result will be visible.
I have done lots of training thanks to Glendola, such as the Manager Development Programme, WSET, first aid, personal license…the list goes on. I’m very grateful for all that has been provided to me from Glendola.
Great fun but not always easy…you will always have difficult customers and difficult days but that’s what makes it such a great job….Keeps you on your toes!
The diversity! The company owns lots of different units that stand out in their own way, for their own reason. I think also the diversity of the staff, there are lots of different nationalities within the company, which means we learn about their culture and way of life.
GO FOR IT, you have nothing to lose really. If you put in the hard work you will get rewarded.

Around the world trip, I don’t think I’ve been to enough places to say. But once I go travelling next year I’ll hopefully have a better idea of where.
