The World's End & The Underworld
When I first visited London with a childhood friend – who had been living in England – he brought me to Camden to the World's End, telling me it was the biggest metal/rock pub to hang around. I liked the atmosphere at first sight so I decided to handle my CV in and become a part of this unique team.
I was born in Budapest, Hungary and left for England in 2014, because I was dating a boy and we moved together. Later on I stayed because I've studied English language since age five and always dreamed of living abroad. I felt like it was now or never...every day is an epic journey when you live in a foreign country. I wanted to go on an adventure to prove to myself that I can cope in life on my own. I am still here so it’s going well so far! :D
I usually work on evening shifts. Weekdays are quiet (except when there’s an easily sold out gig in Underworld Camden) but weekends and bank holidays are always busy! There is not a boring moment and there is always something to do.
I like the people I work with. We are really good friends and stand up for each other. Everyone has their own personality, own story, every one of us is unique in their own way. We are tattooed/pierced and employed! Also, we hire people with crazy hair colours and from all around the world and it’s truly amazing to see so many cultures getting along well together! Sometimes even musicians apply for the job!
I've learned a lot of things in the pub industry and a lot about myself too. Working for a busy industry sometimes can have it’s ups and downs. Working at Camden Town’s biggest pub is definitely something I am proud of.
Be interesting, be nice, and be loyal at work. We all work hard in here. And if you want to be a team member you should not let us down.
I had great training from my previous Supervisor, she told me everything I need to know, and some glass balancing tricks which I am still using to impress my colleagues and the customers!
It is always fun, sometimes maybe a bit too much fun! Especially on the weekends when after work we all sit together at staffies having a banter and drinking pints – for free!
I have been working in the Worlds End for years now, and I admit, I have seen many people working here. But I think kindness is the key. Even if you had a bad day there will always be someone to make you smile! I consider myself a cheerful person, I am a good listener and I learn fast. I barely have arguments with people, and try to help as much as possible.
That it’s a great opportunity if you like loud rock music and would like to work in an alternative pub, however you need to learn quick because this place gets crowded very easily! This will not be your average pub on the corner – we all provide great service and unique appearance!
I like horror movies and Japanese films…I would say my favourite book is Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami. The story is about a boy moving to Tokyo and how he is dealing with adult life. I think this is what’s going on in my life too. I am adulting.
I can’t tell what is my favourite song because there are too many. But I love Metalcore and Hardcore. Luckily we have many gigs in the Underworld, that satisfies my hunger for these musical genres.
The best, a chatty, a trustworthy and a hungry friend!
Japan! I've always wanted to discover this amazing culture and language, And I can learn the language a bit easier!
