Why did you choose to work for us?
I chose to work at Glendola Leisure because of the potential to progress and really challenge myself to try something I had never done before.

Tell us about your story so far?
When I moved to the UK from New Zealand I had no experience whatsoever working in hospitality. I will always be grateful to the Star and Garter management for seeing potential in me. Since then my skills and knowledge have vastly improved, I have gained some amazing friends and have been able to challenge myself in ways I never thought I would ever do.

What do you get up to on a typical day/shift?
Most days is serving customers, creating our cheese and charcuterie boards, general maintenance and up keep of the bar and preparing for any functions we have coming up.

What do you like most about working here?
I like the warm, friendly environment, the encouraging staff who always want you to do and be the best that you can be and the opportunities to progress within the company.

What’s been your biggest achievement so far?
My biggest achievement is definitely how much more confident I am now than when I started working at Glendola Leisure, which came from other people in the company having confidence in me.

Tell us about the training and development…
The training Glendola Leisure provides is great. All the training is relevant and improves your knowledge to better help the customer if they need advice and also to help your personal development within the company.

What is it really like to work here?
Working at Glendola Leisure is amazing. They get you involved with the training they have available, occasionally you have the opportunity to work in another unit when they require extra staff and no two days are ever the same which keeps the days exciting.

What do you think makes us unique as an employer?
The hands on involvement of senior management, the care and thought that goes into the running of each unit and feeling like a part of the Glendola Leisure family.

What would you say to someone who was thinking of applying?
Glendola is an amazing place to work. If you get the opportunity, grab it with both hands. You won’t regret it.

My favourite place in the world, Whangamata, New Zealand - relaxation, seclusion, beach, swimming, surfing, forest, walking.
