Why did you choose to work for us?
I was living in Northern Ireland when I applied to work for Glendola Leisure. The idea of working for a company that offered progression and an opportunity to live in London appealed.

Tell us about your story so far?
My career started in Waxy O’Connor’s London as a jack-of-all-trades spending time in the kitchen, bar and cellar. I then was part of the opening team for a new Irish bar in North Wembley called Bootsy Brogans where I was promoted to Bar Supervisor and then within a year transferred to the Star & Garter in Putney as Assistant Manager. I completed the MDP in Putney and was promoted to Deputy Manager in Waxy’s London. A year later I was given the Opportunity of running my first venue, Waxy’s Glasgow. 18 months later I took the chance to open a new Waxy’s in Manchester and a year later completed the circle by moving back to London where it all started as Manager of Waxy’s London. Four years later I successfully applied for a position on the Operations Team and have doing that for the last eleven years.

What do you get up to on a typical day/shift?
The great thing about my job is that there is no such thing as a typical day or shift! Yesterday for example I spent the morning attending a site meeting in a high vis jacket and hard hat then that afternoon sampling cocktails for a new bar menu.

What’s been your biggest achievement so far?
Starting at the bottom, learning the ropes and now being in a position to help people who want to do the same

When the Managing Director is an active participant in the Management Development Program I think that speaks volumes about how much the company cares for and nurtures talent.
