Why did you choose to work for us?
I used to drink in Waxy's Glasgow and loved it. I thought I would apply for a job and I haven’t looked back since. It’s still a great atmosphere from the other side of the bar.

Tell us about your story so far?
I started in February 2010. I have met so many wonderful people, many are still friends and we all keep in contact. I also met my boyfriend here. We have been together five years!

What do you get up to on a typical day/shift?
I am the captain of my own ship. I treat my bar as if it was my own. I take great pride in making sure my bar is tidy and welcoming. It is my duty to make sure everyone is comfortable and having a great experience.

What do you like most about working here?
The people I meet, both staff and customers. I have heard some pretty surreal stories about various characters over the years which is always good for anecdotes. The staff are great. We’re like a big family which I know sounds corny but it is true. We love nothing more than a wee drink together.

What’s been your biggest achievement so far?
Becoming a Trainer, I was given the responsibility of training new starts a few years ago. It is great to be seen as someone the staff can look up to. It makes me proud that staff can look to me for advice.

What makes someone successful here?
Strong legs! As well as having the craic, you can’t be afraid of hard work. It is a physically demanding job but it does make the beer at the end of the night taste so good.

Tell us about the training and development…
We are often asked what we would like to know more about, the management always try to arrange something for us. Examples are whisky and wine training. It is always very informative and a laugh. We all enjoy showing our new skills behind the bar and love the competitiveness to win the staff incentive prize!

What is it really like to work here?
There is never a dull moment at Waxy's, it is a fast paced environment where there is always something to do. It is just a bonus that you are doing it surrounded by your friends.

What do you think makes us unique as an employer?
The family atmosphere, the management team is always looking out for the staff and helping them to improve and getting the very best of everyone.

What would you say to someone who was thinking of applying?
It is hard work, but you will love it!

The management put this on the playlist for me and it always puts me in a good mood when I hear it at work.

If you could invite anyone to a dinner party, which 4 people would you choose?
My Mum, to show her I can cook, Lulu because my Mum loves her and it would be funny to be drunk and try to sing “weeeell you know you make me want to shout”, Beatrix Potter and Kevin Mc Cloud.

What would be your ideal holiday destination and why?
Canada – warm summers/cold winters/friendly people and maple syrup.
